Scorer - Van Pelt
This was a day of high drama from start to finish. Firstly we
were greeted with the most unforutnate news that our big man at
the back (Nicholas Dalby) was in hospital undergoing scans sustained
in the gymnasium - we wish him a swift recovery. Shortly after
this we were
greeted with some great news that the big Murt was going to don
his boots, don the train, don someone else' shin pads, don the
sacred shirt and lead the frontline. Unfortunately, the big Murt
never made it as he felt it best to save himself for the all important
cup game vs Carthusians on the 24th November at Nescott.
We then arrived to find that we had two referees. Both of whom
has such an avid appreciation of our footballing prowess that they
were desperate to oversee our game. Bring on the stand off, Big
Raffa from Poland vs Little Pizzaman from Pizza land. Bransby oversaw
the whole emotional affair and after 5 minutes of negotiation Pizzaman
headed back to Pizzaland close to the brink of tears and refusing
a consolatory ham and cheese roll for his efforts. To the game:
A very good game and a strong performance against a Brentwood team
who will not struggle to rise up the league this season. The first
twenty minutes was shaded by Brentwood who played the ball across
the whole of the pitch with confidence. However, once our two 16
valve, high perfomance engines in Congdon and Sriharan got going
Brentwood began to struggle in midfield. Chances were at a premium
for the majority of the first half with both teams cancelling each
other out. Brentwood, with the wind behind them and the slope in
their favour resorted to the long ball. A horrible tactic but one
that can be very effective. However, our returning joint capitano
(Davies) and Cop withstood the high balls and when the ball got
beyond the defence Big Sam was on hand to sweep up.
On the half hour mark the LOBS drove forward, Luke working himself
into a good position on the left wing, Wig arrived at pace to support
and when the ball was laid back he swung in a cross that would
make even the most impotent of football suppporters crack wood.
The ball crossed the area, hit the post, hit the keeper, hit a
defender, hit the keeper, hit Simon' head and hit the back of the
net. An awesome goal that Lineker would have been proud of and
a first in LOBS colours for SVP.
The first 20 minutes of the second half saw one of the most dominant
LOBS displays I have ever witnessed. Territory and possession was
all LOBS, camping out not in the Brentwood half but in their penalty
area. Lukey delivered a serious of great corners and Scum put in
a couple of superb crosses but the necessary forehead contact just
did not quite come. So typically in these situations, Brentwood'
first chance saw them drive up the pitch and win a throw. The throw
was flicked on and from there it was nodded in for what I hate
to confess was a good goal.
From there the game opened up but neither side could break the
deadlock with Lancing grateful to Billy and Guy for some last ditch
defensive work.
The International All Stars:
Sami (Bra) - first start this season for the big man who played
for both the ones and the twos on the day. Got behind everything...but
the goal. 7.
Guido von Branskamp (Ned) - Solid at the back and showed some nice
touches on the ball. Fended off their big striker at the end of
the game to ensure a draw.7.
William McCullen (Sco) - Good return from our strawberry blond
defender. His enjoyment of the game was clearly shown by his pink,
erect nipples in the showers after the game. 8.
Nikki van der Walshi (Bel) - Unable to make it due to a nasty turn
in the gym.
Edginho (Bra) - Debut for the season. Solid at the back with lots
of the necessary chat. 8.
Ivano Congdorinni (Ita) - Moved from defence to midfield and formed
great pairing with Jordan. Nearly scored the winner when clear
in the box but.......didn' t.10. MOM.
Benios Copodopolous (Gre) - Started in defence but shunted up field.
A quietish game for the Cop as he struggled with an injury in the
second half. 7.
Christopher Wiggins III (USA) - Worked hard and a good cross for
the goal. Great Ham and Cheese rolls too. 8 (one mark allocated
for Tea production).
Jordi (Ned) - Not far off MOM with Ian. Did the Cop job of getting
his head on everything. Tried to work out a chance for a goal but
didn't quite happen. 9.
Laszlo Scummanscovacs (Hun) - Good solid perfomance from the Hungarian.
Would probably have performed better if his childhood hero 'Pizzaman'
was reffing. 7.
Lucas van der Westhuizen (RSA) - Worked hard up front. Great corners,
had a chance cleared off the line and the best (only) shot of the
game. Injured in second half. 8.
Armand Van Peltden (USA) - Some good passing, hard work, capped
with a first goal. 8.
Still unbeaten lads but Cholms won again yesterday so are now four
points clear but we have one game in hand.
