Scorers: Sriharan (2 - 1 pen), Lahane
An update on the LOBS 2ndXI after a stern test against a very
willing, committed and able Lancing 2nd XI. It is quite notable
that the school has clearly clamped down on drinking and smoking
as the pupils appeared to be far fitter than back in the good old
days. I believe that the ban on indoor smoking has rendered the
fives courts totally obsolescent.
Anyhow, to the game, the Twos played some very good football for
lengthy periods of this game but were probably undone by being
a man down for the majority of the game. The last two seasons has
seen the LOBS dominate this fixture from start to finish and record
a couple of pretty hefty scorelines. Indeed the LOBS led twice
but twice were pegged back and indeed had to score late in the
game themselves to secure a 3-3 draw.
Team Summary
1. Wig - A couple of decent saves, a lot of shouting but let in
three goals. 6.
2. Guy B - Good work going forward, working the line. Defensively
strong but tired towards the end with the extra man telling for
the school. 8.
3. Al Poulain - Returning after a long absence, wearing new bling
boots and was quick, strong and played some good football. 8.
4. Nick DB - First half an hour played the midfield enforcer but
reverted to his more common position of defensive stalwart. Lots
of sliding tackles, big kicks and sweating. 9.
5. Toby - Quick, good in the air and made lots of important tackles
in and around the box. 8.
6. Jordan - Lots of good footwork and trickery and two goals to
go with. One cool penalty and one header from 3 centimetres. Earned
his Marlboro reds. 8.
7. Cop - won pretty much everything. Started at the back but moved
into midfield where he soon dominated using his razor like shins
to devastating effect. 10 MOM.
8. Russ Churcher - Got to bed at 8am and woke up just after the
final whistle. Great feet from the flying winger, making lots of
passes and combining well with Al Poulain on the left side. Tired
early in the......first half. 8.
9. Tom Roberts - Good full debut on the right wing. Worked hard
and always looked for the ball. Pin point cross for Jordan' headed
goal. 8.
10. Jules Lahane - Worked hard on his own up front with pace a
constant threat. Earned the penalty and scored a cracking goal
to put us two one up. Transferred to the ones for last twenty minutes.
9.
11. Jimmy Murtagh - slightly late appearance from the speedster.
Tormented the Lancing boys with his pace and trickery but didn't
quite get the finish to match the performance. 7.
