Forest 4s 1-1 Lancing 2s

Chris Williams

Scorer - Murtagh

At the final whistle the Forest captain threw his hands in the air and squeaked, 'Great result lads against the team at the top of the table'. Anyone would have thought that Forest had won. But no, they had earnt themselves a draw. It could have been different as the last kick of the game saw Jimmy Murtagh, having beaten two players curl the ball just beyond the far post. Had that gone in it would have been immaculate but 1-1 was an excellent result.

On paper the team was awesome but a few players playing in new positions meant that it took time for the lads to gel. Robbo was new between the posts, this is the Robbo who makes saves, not the Robbo who spills the ball for England. Johnny Taylor came in to the back four to form a very strong partnership with Dalbs. Al H switched to left wing and Lukey marauded down the right with Jimmy M and Van P adding the fire power.

The game was open with both teams creating chances. The LOBS had the better chances in the first half, the best of which was a header from Al that the Forest keeper clawed over for a corner. In the second half the LOBS got better, creating more and more chances as the game went on. However, Forest took the lead, a high looping corner sailed over Wig at the far post, hit one of their players on the head and went in. Heads didn't go down and the LOBs pressed on. In the 70th minute Luke crossed the ball in, there were a few shots, kicks, shouts, screams, hugs, licks and kisses before Jimmy slotted home.

Both teams had chances but in the end a point keeps us top and unbeaten.

The Team

1. Ian - Never played on an 11 a side pitch but had great hands. Made a couple of crucial saves and kicked well out of hand. 8.
2. Guy - back in at right back. By his own admission a bit in and out of the game. A 10 minute spell that was not so good was followed by some big tackles and him throwing himself in the way of the ball at every opportunity. 7.
3. Wig - Playing the left back role for the first time and a bit Pyo Young Lee. Some good, some bad should have cleared the ball for their goal. 6.
4. Dalbs - Another player returning and was immaculate. Big, scary, got to the tackles, big headers and the deepest voice on the pitch (excellent). MOM 10.
5. Johnny T - First game. Replacing Billy Cullen in the team as the token ginger. Very dependable. He and Dalb form a big pairing. Good header of the ball, can play out of defence and chased their forwards down all game. Took a nice kick for his efforts. - 8.
6. Cop - For the first time he was not the biggest player on the pitch but still won the majority of the ball in the air. Two great headers, one in attack that was cleared off the line, one in defence that had such power he was left with the FIFA emblem stickered to his forehead. 8.
7. Jordan - glimpses of the mercurial touches that make his combination with Cop so valuable. Also won more headers than he should. Sprayed the ball nicely at times. 8.
8. Al H - out of position and didn't get forward as much as he would have liked in the first half. Was invaluable in driving the team forward after we conceded. 8.
9. Luke - Skinned their left back everytime in the first half. Won numerous free kicks in the second half as their left back attempted to remove his shirt at every opportunity. Assist for the goal 9.
10. Jimmy Murtagh - a constant threat. Enjoyed running at the defenders and drove them back. He scored one and if his shot at the end of the game had gone in, it would have been up there as contender for goal of the seaon with O Bailey' effort of last week. 8.
11. Si VP - worked tirelessly. Nearly worked a goal in the first two minutes. That aside had one excellent shot that fizzed past the post in the second half. A goal is nigh. 7.

Well done lads. Still unbeaten and evidence would suggest that there is no reason why we should not keep this run going for many games to come.

More good news, Haberdashers have given us a bye into the next round of the cup, so amazingly in the space of one weekend we have drawn one and won one - even Man U have never managed that. We may get a league game rearranged for next weekend but at the moment it looks like it could be a free one. I will update as soon as possible. In the meantime I hope you all enjoyed it and I look forward to getting back on the victory trail when our next game comes up.
